In January 1989, my father Alan and I took over Thorpe Bay Marine. Having left the Merchant Navy as an Engineering Officer and spent several years working ashore, I was eager to return to the marine industry.

​

Back then, we were Mercury, MerCruiser, Fletcher and Kawasaki dealers, witnessing the early days of the jet ski revolution. In 1992, we took on the Sea-Doo dealership and we believe we are the only dealer still operating from those early days – something we are incredibly proud of.

Over the past 37 years, we’ve seen the industry transform from basic stand-up machines to today’s powerful, technologically advanced Sea-Doo range. Through it all, our passion for the water and commitment to our customers have never changed.

Thorpe Bay Marine has always been a family business. After my father retired, my youngest brother joined me before eventually pursuing his own career. In 2019, my youngest son, Clive, joined full-time after completing his plant and HGV engineering apprenticeship – although he’d been around boats and jet skis since the age of three!
